Make 1 or 2? Did your parents make you one or two when you were a kid?

Just in general. :)

Where is the Atkins choice? "Parents made one, I skip the bread and eat only the good parts."

In class professor was trying to make a point, and most us followed our parents example of what was a portion as far as this went. Ie if we were fed one, we learned 1 was a portion, or if we were fed 2, we learned 2 was a portion. Interesting to see it applies generally (even though the sample is obviously small :p )

1/1

However, my sandwiches are a lot more bulky than the ones my parents made me when I was a kid. Plus I used to dislike mustard, and now I love it.

Why do they call it a sandwich? I mean it's not sand and it's not a witch - I mean come on! What is the deal?

Two? If I wanted two sandwhiches worth of food, I'd just load the first sandwhich down with double the meat.

Anyway, one and one.

It depends on how hungry I am. I also didn't have parents make them for me. When it happened though they made me one. Now I make one but leave stuff out until I am done making it, then if I want another I make it otherwise it goes back into the fridge.

Where's the option for "The number of sandwiches I make is directly influenced by how hungry I am"? Am I missing something here?

It was named after John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, an 18th-century English aristocrat, although he was neither the inventor nor sustainer of the food. It is said that Lord Sandwich was fond of this form of food because it allowed him to continue playing cards, particularly cribbage, while eating without getting his cards greasy from eating meat with his bare hands.

He's my hero :D

When I was younger, I made my own sandwiches. If my parents did make me a sandwich, it'd be just one. Nowadays I usually make one, but just recently I made two sandwiches because I was starving

What if you make one and cut it in half, would that make it 2 portions?

When I got old enough to make my own, I would make 2 smallish ones.

But the quantity versus portion ratio is the major deciding factor. If I am making a giant sub sandwich out of large seasoned french bread, it is cut in half, and the roomy eats the other half. Is that one sandwich or 2 portion wise? Technically, it is one cut in half.

So portion size is everything, not quantity.

The Poll fails at this level, sorry.

I make one. That's why it's called "making a sandwich" and not "making sandwihes".

I see what you're saying about the portions, and realized this when I started university.

When I drank water at home, it would be in a glass (may be 160 ml glass?) and that is what I did since I was born. When I moved to university, I realized that I could save some costs (and washing up) if I just drank straight out of the bottle. But this meant that I would usually get more water than I needed and this meant that whatever I ate wash being washed out. After my first year, I realized what I did wrong, and bought some glasses, and drank the water.

During the following year though, I was living with a couple of mates, and they had glasses that were at least double in size. When I started drinking water from these glasses, I also realized that even though it may still be a glass, the water is too much, and need to stick to using the portions I have been using all the time. (These were very similar to Collins glasses)

As far as sandwiches go though, I never made myself that many sandwiches, and neither did my parents while I was at home, so I really don't have any portions to go by.
