When you machine wash a button down shirt, do you leave it buttoned?

I'm not very good with the washing... If you wash button down shirts, do you leave them buttoned or unbuttoned?

Also, when you put them in the dryer, do you keep them buttoned?

i usually don't, but i'd like to know, is there an advantage to keeping it buttoned??

keeping it button helps the shirt to keep its form better, it's not stretched by the agitation as much

Weird, 5 minutes before I saw this thread, a button came off one of my shirts in the washing machine.
