Yeah maybe if you're a snobby ultra-purist, but pop-punk and other offshoots thrived in the '80s: X, Oingo Boingo, PIL, Pogues, Rollins, etc.

And one of the best punk movies of all time was from 1984: "Repo Man's life is always intense."
