Wow some people take crap too seriously. So what if they are ringing up your groceries. They are suppose to remain quiet while they do so? They're freakin people for jeebus sakes. It's like people calling me sir at a place, you calling me sir means we will never ever be friends. Some people need to step back and get a reality check.

It's a monotonous job, with lots of time on feet. If talking with co-workers makes their load lighter, I'm fine with that, as long as they move my items thru and don't ignore me in the process. :)

i voted yes before reading the question correctly, i really dont care, i would prefer that.

at my grocery store the cashier always tries to talk to me and that always annoys me cause they make dumb jokes or ask questions i really dont feel like dealing with, or ask/mention the same thing almost everytime i go in...or they will read my tshirt if i am wearing one and ask questions about it...its annoying...i just want, the normal questions if any "did u find everything ok?", "its nice out today, huh?", etc... i dont want them to act like they know me...i dunno just bugs me sometimes when im in a hurry

It slows them down.
They don't get paid to chit chat.
It makes me feel like I'm interruptring.
No need to remain quiet. Interact with the customers.

I would likely call you sir.........

I don't care if they're talking to co-workers as long as they're still doing their job.

I'm a freak and if I remember I usually take my own cloth bags and just tell them to bag stuff into them.

I worked at a grocery store as a bagger for 8 years. There is a time and a place for talking to the cashier, and sometimes I think its fine to talk while a customer is there. THere are also times when the conversation should stop when customers are there. It is all circumstancial in my opinion, but I think that the majority of the time, as long as you are still giving attention to the customer or involving them in the conversation somehow, that talking betweein the bagger and cashier is fine.

Don't really care about the small talk between the cashier and baggers, just don't make a mistake on the cost of my items.

Plastic FTW. I reuse them.

what the hell, i like paper because i can reuse it. they are nice paper bags tho with big handels.

plastic generally gets holes in the bottom of the bag. Or get all wrinkely. I will fold up some paper bags and carry just whatever in them. maybe a few beers, maybe the xbox/controllers. You can just throw the bag away whenever you get there. Would you rather carry an xbox in a big paper bag with handles, or a plastic bag where it barely fits.

Not all paper bags have handles. Ours didn't. :(

As long as they're reasonably polite to me (as in, at least say "hi", don't just keep talking as each new customer comes up) and don't mess up, etc., I don't really care if they talk. As for bags, I prefer plastic because I use them to put trash in at home and I can carry more than a couple in at a time.

Don't care about speaking to coworkers, so long as they don't ignore me. And plastic bags ... recycled as dog-poop receptacles later :p

plastic, cause i reuse it.

Same feelings here.
