When you get married, do you know who your best man/maid of honor will be?

I was thinking about this the other day - I have a lot of friends I'd consider very close friends, but no "best friend." When it does come time for me to get married, I really don't know which of 'em, if any, I'd ask to be my best man. I don't have any brothers either, which probably would've made that choice easier. I'm just curious if others are in a similar situation.

Married, didn't have a best man. 😛

Got married in Vegas with my wife's parents as witnesses and her father gave the bride away. Neither of us wanted a huge wedding in the first place, but it was a nice ceremony. 😀

I always knew that my maid of honor was going to be my sister. and my brother was an usher.

Whoops, I meant to say maid of honor. Corrected the subject. 🙂

I suppose I could go with one of my cousins to be fair to my friends (who'd all be ushers)...

'course then, I guess I wouldn't be fair to my cousins. 🙂

all depends on when i get married, who knows who my closest friends will be 2-3-4-5 years from now....

I have two best friends, and the one who was most responsible got the part!

Did that piss off the other best friend? 'course, guys are generally cooler about that stuff (not being the CHOSEN one...) it seems, than females.

i did have a best friend long ago, but we stopped talking so now... i would have no idea. but, atleast i dont have to think about that for quite some time...*depressing sigh*🙁

Do you need to have a best man?

No. It's just a traditional thing. Back in the old days, when stealing your bride from another village was de rigueur, you would have your "best man" standing at your side to help protect you in case the bride's family came to rescue her.

Edit: This is why the best man always stands on the right(?) of the groom, so his sword arm is free.

Maid of honor?

Mary Walsh - best friend since 7th grade, haven't spoken to her in 3 years (lost touch) 🙁

Jenny Ng - best friend in college, have only known for 2 years

Justine MacNeil - would've had the title in a heartbeat, but we stopped talking 2 years ago because of a stupid boy. Damn boy.

Girlfriends in LA - still getting to know, but a couple have potential

Conclusively, no.

How about a Las Vegas wedding?

Speaking from experience here... 😀

I posted this already, but I didn't have a best man or any of that stuff. My wife and I wanted a simple ceremony, so we went to Vegas, paid $50 for the marriage license at City Hall the night before, then we got married the following morning at a wedding chapel off the Strip. Her parents were witnesses and her father gave the bride away.

Yes, it wasn't a big wedding but it was one of the best days of my life 😀.

i guess i'll have to choose between 3 for my best man...dunno how I will choose

edit: but I am pretty sure it will have to something to do with a drinking contest between the three 🙂
