As long as it's not flashy I don't care. My current case is dark green and white (not exactly fapadelic) but I don't look at it more than five seconds a day anyways.
Before i didn't give two shiiiits but seeing as I'll be moving out as a bachelor for the first time and I really want my pad to look nice, it does matter now.
i dont see the insides of my case cause my desk is the kint where there is a shelf for the case and its too much of a hassel to take it out. For the case, i like a nice clean glossy black or silver case. I have a p160
I focus my efforts inside the system first. For the exterior, I like simplicity. Smooth, simple. Usually the brushed silver or black of a Lian Li case. I think the people who have a dozen LEDs lighting their machine make it look tacky.
I dont do a lot of case modding or anything. Just dont get like an rainbow colored case and attempt to mod it and put a crap load of stickers on it.
Same goes for monitors. I hate it when i am on a computer and the monitor has a bunch of crap all over the outside of it (adhesive) or it is dirty.
For the inside, neat is good, dont really mind if it is a mess in there, but i also dont like it when i open a case and there is dust so thick it clogs the vacuum cleaner or something.
To a certain exent, yes. I don't like the "l33t H4x0rz" cases with all the plastic protrusions and what not. Nice, simple, elegant antec and lian li cases for me. Antec SOHO 1080 FTW (incase that number means nothing to you, its the quintessental antec fulltowr with the door.) no window, no glaring led lights.
Criteria when choosing a case:
utility/build quality ~= price > performance (airflow) >> looks
all things being equal, I'll chose a better looking case over a crappy looking one, otherwise I don't care sunce it's going under my desk anyway.
looks matter to me in that i DON'T want a very flash case. it should be simple and attractive, like any piece of furniture or electronics that you'd have in your house.
I'm a big fan of aesthetics. It's what compelled me to get an Apple 23" Cinema Display HD for my glass desk even though information on cross compatability with PC video cards was spotty and anecdotal.
As PC's grow, evolve, and become even more permanent fixtures in households I think it's important that the outward appearance of a box match the tastes of its owner.
Just what those tastes are can vary widely - from outrageous case mods full of bright neon lights to subtle aluminum and black schemes. I'm glad there's such a variety for consumers and DIY'ers to choose from these days.
Insides can be important to me too - i've always found my system temps to be cooler and my computer quieter when my cables are neatly routed and tucked in place with wire ties or sleeving covers.
