When you are working out, how many reps should you do per muscle?

The title says it all. Can you do two varieties of the same muscle 4 times each? That would make it 8 repetitions.

Is this ok? Do less? Or more?

My method is to find a weight that I can do bewteen 4-6 reps max to failure, and then I do 3-4 sets. I do mostly compound exercises, too.

This is primarily a method of attaining mass, and not necessarily strength or tone.

I don't really understand what you are asking. I do sets of 10-8-6 per exercise. I do anywhere from 2-5 exercises depending on the group that I am working.

Depends on your intentions...I have a naturally thin build, so my workouts are balanced between shaping/toning and strength/mass building. I'm happy staying under 160lb. and muscled.

How new are you to lifting and what are your goals and bodytype?

It depends on a number of things, but mostly your goals.

Mind explaining how you "shape" your muscles?! Because as far as I know, thats impossible.

You can change symmerty and certain aspects of your muscles such as the peak on your bicep, but it takes years or lots of AAS.

muscle can be sculpted. You can hit muscles from a variety of angles with freeweights.

or synthol.

for building mass I find a weight that I can do 10 reps at. I then do 4 sets of 10,8,6,4 reps each time upping the weight by 5 lbs. So if I do 10 reps of 120 on tricept pulldowns the next set would be 8 reps at 125 then 6 of 130 then 4 of 135.

I do between 8-10 thousand reps per set. But I should point out that I'm not your normal person, I'm a mountain of a Man.

I once got arrested for displaying two guns and a weapon of mass distruction. Then they realized that I wasn't armed. The police then admitted that I was the second largest thing they've ever seen, right behind Denali.

True story.
