Do you really care what operating system or software you are using?

I've read discussions where some folks refuse to use certain operating systems or software because it doesn't fit their philosophies.

If I need to use Linux, I'll use Linux. If I need to use BSD, I'll use BSD. If I need to use Windows, I'll use Windows.

I'm finding people in the work world who refuse to use something because it's offends them quite silly.

Useability and functionality would limit me but not philosophy. I would much rather run port scans on a Linux based nmap than using Windows for example.

I ONLY use Craftsman brand tools. No other wrench or screwdriver will work.

No. Refusing to use a particular OS (ie windows) is pathetic.

Having said that, when I used to repair computers as a little side job at uni, I'd pretty much refuse to repair anything 9x based as it took too much time and wasn't worth the money (for the customer-I'd just get them to buy a £250 basic PC that would run XP). At work: if you can do you job, then do it... XP isn't that bad, stop being so puerile.

Nt 4.0 is pretty porr, however :)

I could care less. I am amazed at the people who treat an OS or CPU like it is religion. Whatever works to get what I need done for the least cost and effort is what I will use.

Does not really matter to me...aslong as i can get my things done. I have had bad experiences using Imacs or w/e their called now. I think its just me because im not too familiar with it. People tend to prefer what they have used the most (opinion btw). I have used windows most of my life so i prefer it. simple

I use what they give me. As long as it does what I need it to do, I don't care what O/S it is running.

There IS the chance that they could actually care less than they do, you know.

I think the better question for most people at least (not the members of forums such as this) is... "Do you know what operating system you are using?" LOL

Probably 75% of the people I've supported at work are lucky the power button doesn't move around...but they are very good at what they do.

For me... as long as I can do my job...and surf the net ;)... I'm all set.

99% of the workforce uses what they boss gives them. Then they refuse to move to anything new. I've seen companies still using computers designed in the fifties because the office staff was to lazy or dumb to even attempt to accept a new software package or OS.
