When You’re Accustomed to Privilege, Equality Feels Like Oppression

Thanks, nice story.

I believe that the right has become so ridiculously infected with this straight ahead attitude, that in P & N we are beginning to see signs of the left often reacting the same way.

That attitude of privilege is what I would refer to as a dominant concealed prejudice, the hidden assumption about reality that lies at the root of bigotry, an assumption we make unconsciously and therefore don't see and can't therefore challenge consciously because to do so would reopen feelings of guilt and shame which as children we could not have consciously survived.

“When you’re accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.”

And things started making a little more sense to me. All this anger we see from people screaming “All Lives Matter”

Is that an admission of the privilege of the author, when the equality of "All lives matter" bothers them?

It sounds a lot like you're bemoaning faux oppression when faced with the notion that everyone should be equally protected from police brutality. And instead of being inclusive and working together to end it, you'd rather be divisive and exclusive. To destroy a good cause for the sake of exclusivity.

I see posters here clinging to privilege in the face of equality.

Its more efficient to focus energy where the actual problems are.

There's a storm coming, Mr. Wayne. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Choosing where to live is our only real power in this matter. Thank goodness for white flight.

It's worth noting that if you are going to conflate "moving into someone else's way or private space" and someone doing whatever they want in their private property being the same thing, you have to repeal property rights.

But if allowing the problems to persist is profitable for the right kind of people perhaps one would prefer it if energy went where only the small problems and non issues are.:colbert:

lol Yet another example of far left navel gazing. "All lives matter" is privilege, but "Only black lives matter" is equality. Gotcha. I'm certainly looking forward to the next far left article demonstrating total lack of self-awareness; they are consistently some of the funniest things out there. By all means, trot that tattered old race card out one more time. We're not laughing at you, we're just laughing near you.

And before long, I was one of the servers the management favored, which meant I got better shifts, better sections and better money.
We just had a whole thread with the anti-tip brigade arguing themselves blue in the face making this out to be an impossible scenario! Doesn't this guy know management's 'favor' was really him being oppressed?

So anecdotal "he said..." story about a jerk of one type, as related by another jerk of a different type...

= something to do with an entire race of people....

= something something something about privilege.

= .... Good God. Leftists at it again.

On one side, we see people who are angry about “those people” being let into “our” pool. They’re angry about sharing their toys with the other kids in the classroom.
...
On the other side, we see people who believe that pool is for everyone. We see people who realize that when our kids throw a fit in preschool, we teach them about how sharing is the right thing to do.
This feels like an essential socialist vs. capitalist debate. Ayn Rand would say people need to pay for the right to their own swimming pool; but then they should get it to themselves. And that kids should earn the right to play with toys.

Clearly the author is a white male, which is why he was one of management's favored servers and got the better shifts and tables. And clearly "Chuck" is a minority. Everyone knows that aggression is the new "N" word. (Well, one of several thousand new "N" words, but still . . .) And just see how violent!

What on earth is wrong with your, Zaap? This is a story about an insight somebody had into human nature, a uncommon and valuable one. The real problem here, I think, is that you don't know yourself and aren't capable of that insight because you live in emotional denial as to how your unconscious assumptions operate. This doesn't apply to liberals or conservatives in particular, although it is probably more common among conservatives than liberals owing to the scientifically proven fact that conservatives are more likely than liberals to deny facts that are emotionally distressing to them.

Grow some balls and learn to confront yourself. You will find yourself in a better place. If you could make every liberal on the planet eat shit you would still be as fucked up as you already are.

You are a bigot. You don't see that your bigotry is based on unconscious assumptions that the way you see the world is good. This is a common mistake everybody makes because the good actually exists. You just don't know what it is. The good isn't ideological. It's a state of emotional presence. Relax and be happy.
