When would you consider a person an alcoholic?

I don't think it how much they drink per week - it's how much/often they drink out of moderation.

I have a GREAT deal of experience in this field actually.

I don't consider a person an alcoholic until they consider themselves an alcoholic.
Though perhaps we differ in the fineness of our definitions.

An alkie is a person who has admitted they have a problem. A drunk is an alkie who doesn't know it yet.

I know a few drunks. Not much you can do for them really 'cept try to stay the fvck out of the way.

I once was talking to a friend... when she just fell over out of the blue. It was kind of abnormal.

Well I've noticed one thing that, while it may not apply to all alcoholics, only alcoholics do: they can drink 300 beers in one sitting, but they start talking all fvcked up after only 2. Can someone explain why this is?

I don't think it a "drinks per week" thing. I also don't think it is based on the amount (moderation). If you miss it when you don't have it you are an alcoholic whether you drink a case a day or two martinis every Tuesday.

The best part was that we were standing on the corner of a street waiting to cross. There were tons of people standing and laughing at her make a fool out of herself.

No. I can (and have) do that for several days (months) and if I didn't have a bottle of Jack it wouldn't bother me at all.

I didnt mention how big the bottle was, and the number of hours before it was consumed.

Really? I go months/ years without drinking. I have no dependency. That is my whole point. It isn't how much but your need.
