Also, can i look forward to any price drops any time soon? I really want GTA4 and we need a Blu-ray player so i figure it's about time. From what i hear it would be when the MGS4 bundle arrives though...sooo long!

Thanks

I wouldn't expect any price drops before MGS4. I'd say it's either wait till then or buy one now. Nothing to really wait for in between AFAIK.

yeah, i'm buying one when the MGS4 bundle comes out. one of the new dual shocks, a metallic gray 80GB PS3, and MGS4... can't get much better than that. i'm going to buy that and GTAIV for my first foray into next-gen gaming.

June 12, the MGS bundle.

$499 = 80 GB PS3 with ~80-90% PS2 back compatibility, Dual Shock 3, MGS4 game

($399 if you go to SonyStyle.com and sign up for a Chase/Sony CC for the $100 credit.)

Um... the gunmetal PS3 is a special edition and there has been no word on its release.

I don't think Sony has any incentive to lower the price before MS lowers theirs, because the PS3 is selling well now and outselling the 360.

Cheapest way to get it would be the Sonystyle deal Dave mentioned.

I dont want a weird off black one lol...i just want it to be regular black. So there are two versions of the MGS4 bundle: one special edition and one regular right?

Will the MGS4 one be the same price as a regular 80gb PS3? I miss the days when there was only 1 version of each console.

Thanks guys.

I got mine for $150 off using the sony credit card / sonystyle thing. Other than that the only deal you're likely to find is a coupon that doesn't exclude PS3 (which is rare).

Got mine from Amazon using the Sony card. $299 shipped, no interest for 12 months. But I will be paying it off $50/month

That Sony credit card is no interest for 12 months or did you get another promotion?

Edit: looking closer it says the 12 month no interest is only if purchased at sonystyle. I'll have to check my account, but I'm pretty sure I had no payment due and no interest.

Ah, it's only 12 months deferred interest for that purchase. I was hoping for a 12 month no interest card.

My Sony card had zero % on any purchase made the first 12 months. It's not just the PS3 purchase at the Sonystyle site.

I am a bit miffed at the credit promotion though. I applied last August and got in on the $150 deal. I bought at the end of November before the promotion expired.

As of last weekend I still had not been credited the $150 back. I called and they said they'd get on it. So I get a letter in the mail today saying that I should get my $100 credit next statement.

Grrrr.

It was $150 assholes. And I had to call you and ask for it.

So now I have to call *AGAIN* and wait another month for the $50 to get added on.

The best time, I thought, was when blue-ray "won" the war and congress passed the stimulus package bs.

Anyone know?

Appreciate it. Either way, looks like I will be getting it on June 12...the 80gb one IS BC right (with both PS2 and PS1)?

Yes. The 80 GB models play both PS2 and PS1 games... may need to check the compatibility list for any specific games though.

I do, see my post above. Same $499 (for the black PS3 bundle, no idea on grey one).

BC = Sony BC DB for thee

If I were to get one, I'd wait till it was closer to this year's holidays. It'll ensure if there's a price drop, you'll get it.. .and maybe they'll have a different version out that'll have better BC support.

The MGS4 bundle should be the best deal, even better than the current PS3 deals. Same price for a bigger hard drive + A GOOD GAME (instead of motorstorm) + Sixaxis controller = best deal you'll be able to find

Just wait until then.

I believe the sonystyle discount requires you to buy it off of Sony's website. Why would buying it at Costco make any difference? It's the same bundle for the same base price.

Fixed. Yup, this is the deal I'm looking at. There's a MGS4 PS3 40GB special limited edition gunmetal bundle w/ matching DS3 too. But I don't really care for the color.
