When will you make your next major system upgrade?

I plan to probably upgrade in 2006 by the time Pentium 5 comes out and we are at at least 5 ghz. What about you?

i dont think pentiums are gonna ever reach 5ghz, they canceled the new chips and switched to dual core design.

I am waiting for the 939 motherboards and the AMD 64 3800 to come out in a few weeks, then I plan to pick that up and pair it up with a 6800 Ultra or a X800XT.

As soon as that equipment is available, I will be buying it.

I was considering waiting because btx is coming out this year and so is PCI-express but they probably won't hit mainstream for a couple years. So I'm going to build a completely new system in june or july and then upgrade again in a couple years.

BTX, DDR2, PCI-express, Geforce 6800 GT, Dual Core/Dual GPU/DUAL CPU, (Alienware maybe? or new mobos), 64 bit. In about 1 year I'm thinking, or the end of next year. I'll upgrade my Graphics card right now, my current rig is fast enough.

I'm not going to build a new powerful "Main" system for a while yet..... maybe as soon as this next January, or mid 2005. My current system I use for games and VMWare is just fine for the forseeable future.

My server on the other hand might get a new "behind the curve" Intel or AMD Main board, and such that goes with it...

I'm also looking at getting a Via Epia board for use as either a PVR or low power/silent server - or combo there of.....

Ill be getting a new system here pretty soon, within the next few months im sure. Im excited because ive decided to go with an AMD system for the first time. Im mainly a gamer and really want the best possible speeds for the likes of Doom3 and HL2 etc.

Athlon 64 3800+ or FX-53 939 Socket
Havnt really followed Chipsets for AMD so Motherboard not decided
ATI X800XT Video
Gig PC3200
2x 74GB Raptor SATA
New 21' Trinitron CRT, Probably Dell

personally i keep saying i'm not upgrading anymore but a week later i'm dropping a paycheck on something ($550 last weekend on new soundcard/speakers). But as far as Major goes, I'm going to hold off until pci express and go for a mobo/video card. the rest of my system is fine, and that probably won't even be necessary, but technolust runs crazy in my home.
