Wouldn't that just be SWG + the space expansion?

I would LOVE a good space sim, but it seems like Lucas Arts and all the others are more concerned with easy money, which means piles of crappy online games.
Looking at the memberships of most MMO games, I can see why the companies are headed in that direction.

While many of us complain every day on forums like this, the fact is the market slowly died on the Space Genre which is why Homeworld 2 seemed unimportant and we havent had a good jet sim in a long time.
I also loved Nexus but I seriously doubt it will have a sequel.

Dont forget that Origin made the Wing Commander games and they got swallowed up by EA and then fleeced.

I was an Assault Gunboat / TIE Defender type guy myself. :)

Your sh!t would have gotten blown the fvck up by me.
I could take you without shields.

I could knock your sh!t out while asleep courtesy of my astromech droid.

I have the force. GG.

Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no substitute for a good blaster at your side.

You don't believe in the force, do you?

nerdiest conversation ever... i enjoyed it. but yeah, x-wing alliance was awesome, but some of the missions were damn near impossible. i did like the simulator where you got to flow every ship imaginable though. TIE Defender pwns, wayyyy too overpowered.

That series was so sweet... when one of my friends finally got a PC, he ended up with a 486DX100, and it was way too fast. So I opened it from Windows, launched another couple apps behind it, and that slowed it down enough to play
I just found my Tie Figher Collector's Edition CD a couple weeks ago.

EVE Online?

not even close. EVE is boring as hell and you can't even fly your ship.

Oh yes and Freespace2 was just awesome. i remember booting it up the first time with a brand new pair of speakers and a sub...turned on the afterburners and felt a sense of awe. The story was awesome as well.

what's the space expansion? I'm talking about flight simulator type combat with MMORPG elements like persistent world, massively multiplayer dog fights, money, etc.

Jump to Lightspeed.

PS Genx87, he means with a joystick. EVE doesn't allow direct pilot control of a player's ship, not that it would do much good since the gun system isn't a fixed-forward system. There's no such thing as dogfighting in EVE

Ha, I remember playing X-Wing on my 386 with just the keyboard. Damn that game was hard as hell. Then Tie Fighter came along and that was awesome. X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter was ok, but multiplayer was poorly implmented on MSN game network. X-Wing Alliance was fun, it didn't have the magic from X-Wing and Tie Fighter.

Can you guys imagine the possibility of epic scale battles with today's video cards?

Lucas is a petulant, fan-hating little bitch who wants to kill the Star Wars franchise off and make as much money as possible doing it.

In other words, never.
