When will we see a 1Ghz GPU? And who will do it first?

If nothing else, the AMD vs Intel mhz wars should show that it's not purely raw mhz that determines processing power. More than even CPU's, GPU's will be dependant on efficiency and not raw speed. That's not to say bumping up the mhz won't help.



I'm not asking whether it will be a good thing. I'm asking for computing history, kinda like guiness book of world records for computers.

Well, I didn't say it would be a bad thing. Just not the most pressing achievement considering how today's GPU's are built. I'm sure it would be easy for either ATI or nVidia to make a GPU running at over 1ghz. They'd probably have to strip it of most of the features that make a modern GPU a modern GPU. So you'd get a speed demon (mhz wise) that sucks for the demands of today's games.
