When will we have SMP socket-A boards?

I used to be a regular here but what with my degree and stuff I haven't had the time to read these boards day after day and tweak my system continuously.

So? What have I missed out on since october? I see we have plenty of 760 DDR boards now, and that PC1600 costs the same as PC133. Take that rambust.

So when do we see AMD's SMP chipset? Or has this been postponed until there new processor (and what/when will this be)?

cheers!

Should be around very soon.
AMD 760 multi-CPU boards are expected to be shipping in numbers around summer.

I honestly dont expect them to be as expensive as that thread suggests, but they will definitely be more expensive than normal boards (over $200 is more than likely guaranteed for the first few weeks).

Other main drawback is that I expect all of them to be DDR boards as they are targeting workstation/server market. Pity really, DDR price doesn't justify the extra 10-20% speed it gives.

vss1980 - don't bet on it. PC1600 costs the same as PC133 and is about the same speed. That said many people seem able to run PC1600 at PC2100 specs quite happilly so you're getting 10% extra performance for the same price as PC133.

Of course this assumes you have some other use for your existing DIMMs, but there's always a market for second hand memory at ~ 75% the price of new. This means changing 256MB of PC133 to 256MB of PC1600 should cost you no more than 25% of the price of 256MB ~ £40
