Anyone know actually how the AM4 platform for zen is going to be looking and when (Computex i guess?)? The internet is full of "AM4 as early as march" , wanted to upgrade PC of mom(E8400) before the windows 10 deadline(if that actually happen) with Bristol Ridge if it can compete with a i3-6100 its price/performance , except integrated graphics haven't really found anything appealing from AMD at the moment.

I mean if AM4 can't support DDR4 2666Mhz/U.2/M.2*x4 pcie /USB3.1.... , the entire thing of zen/Bristol Ridge gets kinda dissapointing. Which i hope it does not because i might take a gamble myself at AM4/zen hype :p.

Yeah I am watching and waiting too.. I asked this same question last week and got the same old answer "Wait for Computex". Come on guys I know some one around these parts knows the inside scoop. Are they showing them off at computex or are they releasing them during computex?Damn it, should I buy Skylake now or wait a week or two more for AM4??

Well, no reason for AM4 mobos to exist before Zen is available. That's, what now, Q4?

::googles::

Yeah, Q4. So... 4-6 months?

Have any Zen benchmarks leaked yet or is it still speculation based on the specs?

I wouldn't wait months if I needed a computer now. If you can wait, well, why not wait? Even if Zen's a bust, Intel may have released something sexier (or cheaper) in the interim.

I was expecting to see AM4 Bristol Ridge for desktop , "7th gen APU" , unless that is only mobile then yes we will only see AM4 when zen launches i guess.

Oh, okay, never mind then. I thought that was going to be on AM3.

Old information I guess.

I'm not sure what the use case is where I'd be torn between an APU system in a couple months vs. a Skylake system now... is there budget for a dGPU or is it just a matter of FPS/dollar w/ IGP as a given?

For me personally one of the system upgrade goals is as high as i can go performance/price ratio for around 300-400euro+ windows 10, since her PC classes will probably be windows 10 in the future. Paying for windows 10 would add quiet a big chunk of money to it. If AMD does not release anything new , so be it , a core i3 6100 it will be, more then enough. So I was just curious if a AM4/Bristel Ridge desktop would be better value and before the widnows 10 deadline.

Bristol Ridge is based on existing Excavator cores, so we know what the CPU performance will look like.

And you have a pretty modest budget.

In which case, IMO, the recommendation is the same as it is now for AM3. If she's not gaming, get the i3. If she games, get the APU (and wait for the AM4/DDR4.)

Either way, get an SSD.
