USB 3.0 is out there, but its not as mainstream as it should be because Intel is artificially holding it back.

Intel is working on releasing their Lightpeak, slated for mid 2011.

The only instances of USB 3.0 that I have found are in the high end offerings from the likes of Lenovo and HP. Haven't checked anyone else out.

I have an Asus G53JW which has one USB 3.0 port. So yeah it's starting to get out there.

So when are they going to use the same damn technology we already have for digital optical connections (aka, the fiber optic digital audio) and utilize it for general connections?

Could you imagine a "light" key instead of a USB?

I just wonder if they could power the storage media using a laser or if they would need an additional power connect for some of these devices.....

Just get a laptop with eSata. The performance is the same and sometimes better then current USB 3.0.
