When will they stop making PATA drives ?

I saw a great deal on a hard drive only to realize that it was a pata drive and my mobo has six sata connectors and only 1 PATA connector.

They need to stop the pata drives or start making a SATA+PATA drive.

That will be a business decision based on demand and sales. You have a new mobo - most of the market does not. But, it will eventually happen. In the meantime, there are adapters to convert PATA drives to SATA and vice versa.

I would guess 10 years because there is actually a very large market for replacement drives for older systems, etc. It would be terrible if I was working on a computer and couldn't find a PATA drive.

Corky pretty much summed it up.

I would guess the percentage of PCs using the SATA standard to be about half at this point. Look for IDE drives to be around for some time.

Look how long ISA survived, and AGP.

We have a while to go.

Not such a bad idea to have an alternative. I know you can pick up PCI controllers, but if your onboard SATA controller dies, you can easily switch over to IDE and vice versa.
