that will be at the same price range as the shitty ones are now?

i mean, first these companies make shitty tvs, monitors in many cases, and now they can't even make good AVRs. that's bumfuck.

agreed, just make one that has the 5 or 7 channel amplifier and basic decoding, no advanced automatic functions. Provide 5 or 7 switches in the front to individually control each channel, sell it for 100 - 150. Just passthrough the video, no upscale or enhance shit

So you want a good one for the same price they make bad ones now?

There are plenty of good ones. You aren't going to get one for $150, though.

I'm mostly pissed that they seem to be cutting costs by removing buttons and adding functionality through menus.

Things like not being able to adjust bass/treble via buttons on my newer Pioneer receiver just pisses me off. Ya, the remote does it directly but hte actual receiver does not.

And where are the left/right balance controls?!?!?!?!?

That and my 15 year old Dolby Surround Pioneer receiver has a much better amplifier stage.

Sadly, I need the manual for my new Pioneer just to figure out how to do a chanlle test (where you adjust +/- db settings). My old Pioneer had a button on the remote that said "test tones".

Yes, rarely used buttons but my point is that i am sick of the cost cutting at the expense of user ease.

I don't expect the world but I think most of what is sold as "good or better" is Wal-Mart quality crap. I honestly think receiveres today that sell under $700 are Wal-Mart quality.

And since i am on a drunkin rant. ALL THE FORUMS ON THE INTERNET SUCK. This one included. People here don't know what good is unless they can buy it at Best Buy. And sadly, I find that alot of enthusiast sites are no different. To many 15 year olds that don't know sh!t telling people what good is.

OP is clearly nuts.

There are plenty of good AVRs to choose from out there.

I don't recall manufacturers ever making quality AVRs for $150 then or now. My Denon 2310ci is 5+ yrs old and was not anywhere near highend yet back then but still cost $600. To get a decent one look at spending $300+. You gotta pay to play.

This. You can get more for less now than ever in the history of humanity.

The one thing that sucks about current Denons, though, is the lack of buttons the other guy mentioned... you can't toggle Dynamic Volume with a single button on the X2000, as you could on even the old 1610. Ugh, menus.

most of the time the old IR code still works. if you have a harmony & an old denon remote you can add soft buttons for these types of toggles.
