When will these people learn?

Yesterday, the Dixie Chicks made a comment about being ashamed to live in Texas because of GW Bush. Now, I know they apologized but it doesn't matter, I won't listen to their music anymore. I won't watch a George Clooney movie anymore, nor a Martin Sheen movie/show. I also wont watch a Danny Glover movie, for calling Bush a racist in BRAZIL!( Do it America for gods sake). I am also boycotting French products as well.

My point is, when will these people learn? Their careers are getting screwed up because of stupid comments. Just holding it back and keeping it to themselves will save them so much trouble.

Do you agree?

I agree with you for boycotting them, if you choose, sure, but these people have an excellent platform to convey their views. Theyre just exercising their constitutional rights, same as you.

while i agree entertainers should not be saying stuff such as that. The fact remains they have the right.

Anyway do you really care what clooney or the others have to say? i dont.

it doesn't matter to me. Their perfomance on stages and their personalities (as well as their stupidity) are totally unrelated

Not at all. Just because they are entertainers does not mean their political opinion carries more weight - IMO. When it comes to voting, who they support, who they don't, I don't give a crap, to be honest. It's their right to think - and say - whatever they want about it.

I wouldn't boycott anyone or anything due to their political views. I don't watch George Clooney movies because I agree with his politics, I watch (some of them) because they're good movies. His opinions don't mean sh!t to me.

Just me though.

it amazes me that people like the Dixie Chicks, Garrison Keillor, Martin Sheen, Barbra Striesand, Clooney, etc...think that just because they are "celebrities" that anyone really cares about what their political opinions are.

it amazes me even more when they act surprised that people who like their entertainment become "offended" by their political comments.

most normal people know enough not to bring up a conversation about religion or politics except with very good friends, and even then with caution.

the laughable part about the dixie chicks is that they apologized!!!
let me explain

this shows
#1) they are idiots for making a political statement at an entertainment event
#2) they are were trying to "suck up" to the audience (because they are not standing by their original comments)
#3) that they are political wh0res, because they have backed off their original statement because of fear of consumer backlash

i would have respected them more if they made their political comments and stuck to it....i would'nt have agreed with it, but i would have respected their freedom to speak their mind..now we know they didn't really mean any of it and it was a crude (stupid) effort to win over the crowd.

Heck, if I were rich and got national television exposure I'd be spouting off left and right. It'd most be against bad drivers, but that's just me.

Albeit some people should probably think a bit more about what they say before they actually say it in front of millions of people...but hey, I can't GUARANTEE we've all said something very, very stupid in front of an audience of others before.

Besides, just because you listen to someone's music or enjoy watching them on-screen doesn't mean that you have to like them as a person, or agree with their personal opinions/views. Hell, if someone's an a##hole but a gifted musician, I'm gonna listen to their music one way or the other.

Interesting. People are being persecuted for expressing opinions. Isn't this the very kind of thing that causes oppression and in some cases, even war?

Nope...in fact, I hate the Dixie Chicks but I considered buying their album BECAUSE they made that comment. Political activism, while overdone at times, is a very big part of being an American and something which influences my decisions in a positive way.

Do I agree? Not in the least bit.

We have the freedom of expression, and it's their right to use it.

Boycotting entertainters, products of certain countries because they do not share the same political view is the most absurd thing I have EVER heard.

Oh.. and I forgot that segreation is perfectly alrite if it is against the United States

But you don't watch movies because of the actors politcal beliefs, that again is absurd. I haven't agreed with ANYTHING Bush has done, and in my opinion is not fit for office, but whoops... uh oh.. that would make me enemy with your "If you're not with us, you're against us" notion, in which case I guess you can boycott my posts :disgust:

Does all of this have to do with the fact that you are a Moron?

So a lot of you are saying that you don't really care what all these celebs are saying, but in fact, it seems like the average american WOULD care. Society is so obsessed with television and media and glitz and glamour and hollywood that they'll blindly accept whatever it is that these famous people say. Many of AT'ers know how to think for themselves and try to understand what it really going on, but I would bet that the average american makes no attempt to truly understand that situation in Iraq.
That said, yes, it is the celebrity's right to make his or her view known, but I just wish that there weren't so many stupid and ignorant celebrities around.

I don't know if any of you watched the Jimmy Kimmel show a couple of nights ago when Trey Parker and Matt Stone were on, but they pretty much just ripped on the celebrities who continue to bash the US. It was pretty funny

No. IMO what you're doing is extremely idiotic.

oh man... if I was an entertainer who had a pack of nerds chasing after me after every drunken slur I let loose at a concert, that'd just encourage me to say even more..

I wonder if they are Boycotting Willie Nelson. I can assure you that he is embarrassed that Bush claims Texas as his home state...in between puffs off of a spliff!

God damn them all and their excercise of their first amendment right.

So, if you're boycotting French products you must be boycotting gas imported from "terrorist states" right?

Hey if ther Chicks want to be stupid and nuke their careers then their fans also have the right to be stupid and nuke the Chicks careers. It's all in the name of Free Speech!🙂

Those who would boycott actors and such for their perceived Anti Government/American positions are watching "Joe Millionare" and "Can I date my Mother" anyways.
