its probably going wireless

wimax and 802.16(or is it 20?) should help things along

one day were not gonna even need ISPs. we are all just gonna pass along data on our own wifi nodes. or internet is going to get cheap enough so that its free, then when its free you cant complain about speeds.

I saw a news thread a while ago that said Taiwan is trying to get 1Gb to home users for the equivelant of $250 a month.

They get 1 Mb for 6-10 bucks and 20-30 Mb for about 40 bucks.

(Which is all BS. I seem to visit a lot of web sites that still only upload at slow DSL speed. The only time I hit my peak of 4Mb is on bandwidth testing sites. Or using Download Accelerator to get Linux ISO's.)

As soon as the backbone is redone. Download speeds are as high as they need to be, because upload speeds aren't fast enough yet. Most sites I visit cannot upload their content as fast as I can download it, and there are people with 3x the speed as me.

The internet2 is being developed and tested, but it will be some time before we see this happen. Think of the early days of the internet, where it was primarily used for the military and some colleges. That's where internet2 is.

On top of that, my phone lines will be upgraded. Thank the man upstairs for competition.

i have a 6M line, hwo often does my line reach 6M on normal www and gaming activities? hardly ever

BT reaches to a 3M-4M depending on seeds, and newsgroups are at 6M.
so is there REALLY a need for a faster internet? yes. but IMO not at this moment...

I already have 10 Mbps combined up/down, although I wonder when it will be availabe commercially at a reasonable price...

I'm going to cry when I have to leave this university connection.

My history:
28.8 modem -> 31.2 modem -> 10 Mb
