You visit all these sites - msi, ati, sapphire, asus, gigabyte, bpg, etc, etc... they all list the cards, act like they have them, have drivers, say its out... but you cannot find them anywhere....

What is up with these people?

I mean... there is a trickle here, a trickle there... release the card already. Look at my system and tell me what its missing:

a64 3000+
1 gig 3500 mushkin level 1
gainward geforce3 ti200

X800Pro/XT is already in stores, check zipzoomfly, gateway...

6800's SHOULD be comming in a week or two...or three, of whenever nvidia decides to...but definitely within 18 months..

Sorry... I forgot to mention that I will not pay over MSRP for a card too. Sure some places have it, but you gotta pay $75 over retail. I just need compusa to get it in... have a friend who works there that is able to get the x800pro for $325 and the x800xt for 400... that is IF THE THING COMES IN!!!

Hopefully gateway had more then 10 cards to sell. Some will get lucky, and others wont. I was here and had the card in my cart but didn't order it because I do not trust gateway at all.

When do you plan on purchasing a 6800/X800 Shady? I think that end of June is a good time period to purchase..

I have no loyalty to either card. They both are very nice cards. That card for me is the Abit 800xt from zipzoomfly, though I'm not entirely sure if I made the cut being that I supposedly got the last one available. LOL! Sounds like standby to me.

There are a number of problems that I seem to have with nVidia is that there seems to be some massive last minute scrambling to get more performance out of their new series. I really believe that ATI suprised them with the performance that they where able to achieve with their 800 series and that is causing the delay in the release of the 6800s. I'm not saying that getting performance gains is a bad thing, but pushing back their release dates is.

Not only are the ATI 800xt's becoming available before their release date, but they are considerbly cheaper. This does not seem to bode well for nVidia, considering that they approximately have 200 million more dollars in R&D then ATI does for their new lineups.

The real measuring stick in performance seems to be the game Farcry. Their is a huge differance in high resolution playability, 1600x1200 for ATI vs. 1024x768 for Nvidia. This to me is a huge kick in the groin for Nvidia. I do not know about anybody else in here, but being able to play a game at max resolution and settings has been a dream forever it seems and now it is finally here.

Do not even attempt to call me a fanboy, my last 3 video cards have been Nvidia chipsets. My fanboy crap ended with 3dfx (RIP). Nvidia better get in gear very quickly. I'm sorry but I'm not going to pay approx. $800 for some watercooled video card to play games with all the bells and whistles turned on when I can do it for half that price and no water and extra heat. :)

Well, here is one test that should ease your concerns.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=2044&p=11

The difference between the X800 and 6800 is much, much smaller than you imply. Unless you don't consider 74 FPS "playabe" (the framerate of the 6800GT @ 1280x1024, which is higher than your indicated 1024x768 above). In fact, the 6800GT is just barely faster than the X800pro @ 1280x1024 with AA and AF enabled (52 vs. 50)

Anyhow, since you aren't a fanboy I'm sure you will be happy to hear that you will have many choices for video cards in the next several months, all of which perform very well in the newest games. I agree that the purchasing decision will come down to price for many of us, since the cards are so close in performance.

I'm just venting more than thinking. Over the last three weeks I have tried to buy a 6800 u at basically any cost to put in my new rig. The only thing I have not done is bid on a ebay refrence card. No thanks. Not for that much money. I have been misled by two sites that did not bother to mention that they where pre-order only. I realize that that is their fault not Nvidias. But it is closing in on one month sense the so called release date and now I'm hearing towards the end of June for quantity. I'm sorry but I rather be gaming right now rather than discussing frames/sec or which company farted.

the problem is that Anand forgets to mention that the 6800s are suffering from low precision isssues as seen here:

Nice point Snowman. The only question I have about that benchmark is what drivers for the 6800 u are they using?

Is there anywhere in the UK that has the X800XT? What is the diference between the X800XT and the X800XT Platinum Edition?

Thanks for the article.

I am buying an x800 PRO now for sure. Will play whatever is thrown at it at 1280X1024 and has excellent image quality and will clock to XT speeds out of the box.

Now if only someone would have it in stock for $399 shipped

I'd personally wait for an XT considering they have been available for $450.

ForceWare 60.72, same as Anand. it is listed at the botom of the page here: http://hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjExLDM=

oh and Tom's has more shots of the image quality problems:

http://www20.tomshardware.com/graphic/20040414/geforce_6800-46.html

Definite conflict in 1600x1200 with aa and af turned on in frame rates between both sites. What is with the checkered look Nvidia? Is that issue with image quality going to be addressed or is it something that cannot be fixed? I guess only time will tell. I'm not going to wait for some future driver fix when my new rig is screaming for a new card right now. Plus, more importantly, I do not have the patience. Very frustrating!

None in stock, but overclockers.co.uk and komplett.co.uk have pre-orders.
Difference is clock speeds I believe (520MHz for PE, 500MHz for vanilla edition)

(and sucks about your ADSL, I got mine about a month ago :)
Exchange only reached trigger in Jan or Feb)
