When will the video card prices come down?

I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum, but it's an issue of concern for most of us, so perhaps it's time for a new one.

When will the video card prices come down? Specifically, when will the prices for the 9800 Pro and 6600gt (in AGP) come down from their high perches? Has ATI stopped production of 9800 gpu's, essentially abandoning the mid-range market? Could that explain the seeming shortage of 9800 Pro's and their high prices?

They will come down as soon as people refuse to purchase current cards at inflated prices.

I don't see the 9800 Pro dropping that quickly, especially the 256MB versions. I'd give the 6600GT AGP about 3 months to fall under $150.

In the meantime, I'd keep a close eye on the Hot Deals forum, it's how I got a 6800GT for $320.

The most common time for ANY video card prices to fall any significant distance is when the NEXT GENERATION of cards comes out... which in the video card industry is 6-months to a year after the release of a current generation of cards.

Example, GeForceFX cards really only dropped significantly in price once GeForce6 series cards were on the shelf.

If you want to see a significant price drop in the 6600GT (or any GeForce6), expect that to happen when the GeForce7 series debutes.
