I don't think there's any news on that? It would be a good choice though since it runs cooler and draws less power than the 6800's. Maybe they're waiting to release it as a 90nm part though.

Hopefully it comes out soon, and gets put in a cheap dell even sooner.

i thought the 6800 go (the ultra version) was some kind of semi hint toward what G70 would be like

i mean think about it, it had 12 pipes and 450mhz top speed, and it beat out the 6800GT, and some times the Ultra. coulda been a test mule for Nvidias efficiency progress? or a hint towards what they were working on next?

Im pretty sure the 6800 go series is still generally based on the nv40-45 architecture, since its 130nm and codenamed nv41m.

1. A 6800 Ultra on a Gen2 XPS can run for about 2 hours full boar on battery power (real world, as I happen to have one).
2. The 7800 uses less power than a 6800. This is known fact.
3. Because of a laptop's inherent portability, there are plenty of people who are transitioning to them as their all encompassing solution (I won't play a FPS on my Dell, but I will certainly play MMO's).
4. You'd be amazed at how much profit nVidia has garnished from the mobile market.

With the abilty to actually get performance out of laptops now more ppl are getting laptops because they are easy to move around and can still offer decent gaming performance. Think about it this way, which is easier to carry around, a tower, or a laptop? If you go to a lot of LAN events a gaming laptop offers you more than you need in terms of raw gaming power, and is far easier to cart around to events.

ATI MR X800XT > NVIDIA GF Go 6800 Ultra

Oh, and ATI has an X800XT PE clocked at 480MHz Core/550MHz Mem. While it hasn't shown up in use yet, that's a helluva mobile clock.

The 6800 ULtra Go already uses the power saving features of the 7800GTX, so I wouldn't think that the 7800GO would use any less power than the Ultra.

Hate to tell you, but comparing specs doesn't mean much of anything when talking performance, especially when you start talking about mobile solutions. I'm too lazy to find benchmarks right now, but if you want to do the research and find them showing that the x800 is actually a better card, I'll bite. Until then, I'll happily use my XPS Gen2.

Not the X800, the X800XT.

While I see that the Go 6800 Ultra is mostly head to head with a 6800GT due to its high clocks, a 16-pipeline GPU with the same or higher clocks will by definition win in general performance.

Believe it or not, it will happen. Yes, ATI GPU's are optimized for certain games & types of 3D usage. Yes, NVIDIA GPU's are optimized for certain games & types of 3D usage. But the facts remain, just continue to ignore them.

No one is telling you not to use your XPS Gen 2. It is quite obvious you like spending lots of money on the ultra-high end of the high end. I'm not insulting your penis or its spending ability, calm down.

Perhaps you misunderstood. This isn't about fanboism, this is about real world performance, and what's available in the market. If you're talking about what's available NOW, I still think the 6800 Go Ultra has the edge. If the x800 XT makes it to the mobile market IN a viable solution, I'm sure it will be a formidable card, but since, by your own admission, it hasn't, then that's not really a valid comparison, wouldn't you say?

I remember seeing it beat of the crap out of 6800ULTRA GO in MAY (JUNE?) issue of maximum pc? It was used in retail laptop pc also.
Also Anandtech has an article about it a while ago??
