The unfortunate side effect of super cool and super quiet in this case is also super slow. :(

Still fine for a DVD rig or basic computing "needs" such as web surfing, word processing, instant messengers, music, etc., but don't throw this ice cube in a gaming rig and expect it to be 5up3/2 1337. ;)

yes, that is true. fortunately, i dont play games. the most intensive apps i will run on this rig will probably be photoshop, etc...i think the C3 will work fine for my needs (crossing my fingers).

TigerDirect is a bit of a pain, they like to mail you catelogs and stuff, which is annoying, but they are ok to buy from.

<< hmm for super cool and quiet wouldnt a duron work? or a P3? my wifes P3 box is INAUDIBLE >>

Yup, there are some real low speed FCPGA P3s that don't need a fan (just a massive heatsink). I think the P3 550e gives off something like 15.3Watts. The lower speed durons can also be run without a fan sometimes. Perhaps a better idea, however, is getting a higher speed Tbird (1GHz or higher) and a motherboard that supports UNDERVOLTING (abit KG7 for instance) and dropping the clock speed and the voltage...it's slower, but consumes less heat, and is still pretty fast because the higher the stock clock speed, the higher the clock speed you can have at lower voltages (very generally speaking of course - your results may vary). :)

However, if you want 933MHz of guaranteed fanless decentness without the hassle of tweaking or whatever, the C3 is the ticket. I wish it was faster clock for clock than it is...then it would be real nice to have. I have wanted a silent machine for awhile but haven't gotten around to buying a new motherboard that supports undervolting. :(

Hmm, from the benches, it's about as fast as a Katmai P3 @ 450 or somewhere near there. If a high-speed P2 or a low-speed P3 is good for the job, it should suffice. I still wonder if a quiet AMD comp is possible :) Maybe the Panaflo L1 is quiet also :)

Hmmm what board support this c3? BTW my wifes is a 800mhz dell... it ran without a fan for months, because the fan was broken..the only reason I found out about it, is because I popped it open to install a nic... it didnt even need the fan. and im serious you cannot hera it at all.. make sure you get a case with a good tthickness like 1mm

Well, as I said if you have a really good heatsink you may be able to pull it off.. you still have to have a fan in the powersupply I cant think of anyway around that.. what I would do is get large heatsink, and then get a 120mm fan and mount it on the heatsink, then use the speedfan program, to control the speed of your fan, and move it down to a point where you cant hear it.... right now I am using speedfan with a very loud 60mm fan, and I turn it down so it is inaudible, except for when gaming.. you arent gaming so y ou will never have to turn it up, but if you went with a duron set up like this, then you would always have the OPTION of gaming if you really wanted to..

speedfan is an waseom utility...

Sollution for quiet computer

Attach a waterblock to the powersupply's heatsink so that the heat will go into that

Get a massive radiator (preferably from a ford or something.. or use a swifty) and hook up the CPU, videocard, north bridge, south bridge etc.... up via water blocks. Try to get a quiet pump. Now, cut a hole in the case and mount the radiator on the case

Put one of Adda's 9DB fans (you can't hear them. Even when you put them up to your ear) and put it inside the case to exhaust whatever heat remains.

Whola! A 200$ quiet cooling setup.

I have also ordered several things from Tiger Direct without any problems.
