I got SP1 using RalfHutter's link this morning. D/L took three hours twenty three minutes. Gozilla stopped once in the middle...no big deal.

Took me 8 minutes 🙂

I download (<10 minutes) and installed SP1 a couple of days ago. The install was uneventful and I don't see any performance differences. My system was stable before and it's stable now. (Who says Microsoft isn't making progress.

I slipstreamed it and did a fresh install yesterday. Seems smoother running than it did adding it to an existing other computer. So I slipstreamed and reinstalled it on that one as well.

Now I'm starting to miss those thirty hot fixes! Anybody seen a bus on fire?

I read that SP1 with its anti-piracy scheme might wrongly detect legal versions of XP as pirated so I'm a bit hesitant of installing it. Can anyone elaborate on the anti-piracy measures in SP1?

And yes, I am using a legal version...I got it free when MS was giving XP Pro and Visual Studio away to students.

I havent heard any rumors that it ruins anyone who legitimatly has XP installed. Basically the only thing that SP1 does is stop your ability to do Windows Updates if you are using one of the Blacklisted serials and XP Pro Corporate. I'm not aware of anything too horific that it does other than that.

If anyone else knows anything differant please let us know.

But I also heard that SP1 also does something about pirated sharewares...what it's rumored to do, I don't know. But I do have some pirated shareware (most of you do too, so don't get all self-righteous) like Getright and ACDSee. Anybody know anything about this?

I like SlowView much more than Irfanview. It's virtually identical to ACDsee Classic but entirely free and allows me to scroll through pictures via my mouse wheel. Irfanview seems to get stuck on certain pics doing the same thing.

can any winxp SP1 user try to access the windows system information services (start/program/accesories/system tools/system information) and see whether it's working or not? because mine is not working. My file system crashed (and recovered it back)before I install SP1. So I'm not sure whether this is because of the crash I had or because of the SP1 I installed. One more thing. I'm planning to do a clean install soon, and do I have to install the java plug-in from sun microsystem or SP1 already has it?

I dont have any problems accessing the system information mmc so it must be specific to your install.

The java plug-in is not included, however based upon the way the add/remove dialog appears you should be able to select Microsoft VM if you dont want to use the java plug-in from Sun.

If you email the author he will fix that. He's very responsive about fixes and will even add features on request.

well, irfanview still isn't like acdsee.. slowview matches the interface much much better.

but more to the point.. any other mirrors? this dl is taking forever.
