When will SP1 for Windows XP be released??

Officially: Sept. 9

If you search around this forum, you'll see that it's already been leaked and can already be downloaded however. I'm currently running SP1 for instance.

I wouldn't trust a 'leaked' service pack.

But you will trust Windows?

Rick67, there was a thread on this less than a week ago.

a leaked sp1 has problems. i'd avoid it. less than a week to go and you'll have the real deal.

What problems? I`ve SP1 installed and it`s rock solid also it`s RTM final version, btw saw this at NV news
Service Pack 1 for Windows XP is available upon Microsoft's servers, which are sure to be faster than the various servers currently hosting the patch

Download SP1 link .

What problems? No problems here. The file you can download now is the same one you can get on Sept. 9.

If you're too paranoid to download it and wish to wait, that's fine. Don't invent problems when they don't exist.

Heh, no. I don't trust any Microsoft product, but I would definatley not trust something from MS that is 'leaked.'

Sure, there sre usually a few questions of the RTM file to manages to get itself posted on the web a few days/weeks before an official announcement. However, a quick MD5 checksum test proves that many of the leaked files are indeed identical to the one MS finally pushes out the door. No, I'm not saying that every leak is legit, but don't blindly think that all of them are bad.

Granted, I'll take a direct link from MS over some othersite any day. 🙂

-SUO, slowly collecting all IE6 SP1 files directly from MS (download.microsoft.com)

Just wanted to say that I'm running SP1 right now as I speak. The system is rock stable and seem's to perform better. 😉

They closed down that link listed above, I guess too many people found about it. The "leaked" version is the real deal, they just havent made it publicly available yet and wont until the 9th.

BTW just how "leaked" is it if you download it off of Microsoft's public servers?

-Spy

PS I'm running it on 3 machines now and havent had any problems with any of them.

I was able to get one on Tuesday evening, it installed with no trouble.
I then went to Windows Update and installed the few remaining updates...
The MD5 hash of my xpsp1 download is: ecf625f6563dfcaeeecc4b1481899d4b

For those with slow connections, there may be some benefit in waiting for the official release:

The final size of the service pack download has not been determined, but it will be available for free through Windows Update. The online installer will check for existing patches to avoid downloading them a second time.

SP1 downloads at 450 bytes/sec, same problem from different locations...

Has anyone posted any mirrors yet??
Thanks
Leo

Geez, what's so important about having this that y'all can't wait a few days for the public release?

Can you imagine how many people world wide will be downloading it on Sept 9th? So getting early has some advantages, plus if you have any stability or problems with XP,installing SP1 may help.

Or, if everything is working fine you can wait till Oct. 9th to make sure SP1 doesnt introduce many more problems, and you should get decent speeds.

I got SP1 using RalfHutter's link this morning. D/L took three hours twenty three minutes. Gozilla stopped once in the middle...no big deal.
