When will RAM prices likely fall?

I'm in the market to buy more RAM, but the prices are ridiculously high. Are we likely to see prices fall soon?

RAM prices will plummet on DDR when DDR2 becomes more mainstream. Look towards the end of this year or early next year for some decreases.

RAM seems to fluctuate like gold and silver. Sometimes it's dirt cheap, and sometimes it's outragous...
Fortunatley, I'm hooked up at the moment (I may even have an extra stick) 🙂

I bought my 2x256 of buffalo winbond pc3200 back in november, right when things started to spike up. I was angry at the time because the price had gone up a couple bucks at newegg right before I purchased.

In retrospect, it was still a good buy. Prices went much farther up after that.

Just wait, it'll come down eventually.

It still pisses me off sdram is more expensive than DDR now though.

I don't know about that have you checked the prices on PC-100 and PC-133. They are still pretty high since they are in low supply. I don't see RAM prices changing at all in the next year or so.

Define "ridiculously high."

I remember paying $150 for a 4 MB SIMM... $60 for 512 MB seems good to me. 🙂

If you can't afford $60, get off the damn PC and go out and get a job.

Amen. Stick to boardgames and coloring books if you don't have a job and complain

Seriously, RAM is insanely cheap. If you can't afford $60-$70 for a 512MB stick of good quality DDR you need to stop crying about it and start collecting more deposit bottles.

A good stick of low latency brand name RAM is not $60.

Then lower your standars. 😉

I guess I wouldn't understand, I'm not very concerned with the performance of my PC... I don't play many games, I just know mine runs Battlefield 1942 well enough for me. I don't even know what kind of video card I have.

this is what I cosider fairly good quality ram. a good amount more than the $70.

However, it has come down a fair amount compared with a month or two back.

whoopdie friggin do. $87 for 512MB of RAM.

I don't understand your comment. I was quoting a price and then commented that it is not really in the 60-70 dollar range but it has already come down in price compared with a month ago.

Next year.

That's what they said last year

I'm stuck with 1.5 Gigs of slow RAM until the prices drop

What the hell do you need a gig and a half for?

2 computers. Most of it is free/cheap after rebate RAM

Will be building a 3rd as well and don't want to drop to 512MB on any of the computers.

Less demand for it. I doubt it comes down much ever again.

Yeah, it'll probably settle a little lower eventual and just sort of stick there like EDO simms have. Its a good excuse to buy a new motherboard though.

Despite ram prices going up a bit recently, we are still in a period of time with really cheap ram.
