When will R580 be at least paper launched ?

I'd like to know (if any official information was released about it that is).

I've seen a couple R520 reviews today, and I must say I am disappointed by the non-availability of the X1800 XT, since I was expecting it for this month.

Technically I could wait to buy in November.

But it wouldn't be worth it, in my opinion, if R580 ends up being available in December, for example. Or even in January 2006.

I find the X1800 XT performance good, as it looks to be so far. But I won't buy it, I've taken a decision. I'll be fine with my GTX until R580 is released, which I'm even more awaiting now.

So, do any of you know any information about R580 ? Especially, about its paper launch ?

Thank you.

Seeing as how they JUST paper launched their new series TODAY, it would be at least a few months until they do it with another series...

I see.

But ...

I'm sure I've read in a thread here that ATi was planning to make their R580 products available by the end of this year. Or am I wrong ?

Or some article I think was saying ATi completed R580, and are just waiting to release it at a strategic moment. Heh I'm not sure anymore ... and it's mainly why I'm asking the previous questions in my first post. To get some clear information about it, if any is available that is.

I'm not really looking for SLi, even though it does sound good.

I prefer single GPU solutions still.

I've always had ATi products before getting my 7800 GTX, except for the very first GPU I ever had, which was one of those famous MX-440 cards, and I still remember today, it was a "Sucky Edition", PCI (Not even AGP ... eeew), and from XFX, at a time when they were still trying to be somewhere better than crap.

After that MX horrible-ness, I went to ATi, with a Radeon 9600 XT, then Radeon 9800 Pro, and now GeForce 7800 GTX.

I wanted to try nVidia again. I'm nowhere near being a "fanboy". I had a nightmare'ish experience with that MX card, but it never made me refuse going to nVidia again eventually, and now I am back with it.

I was happy with ATi, especially with my 9800 Pro, but I had to upgrade. And I wanted a GPU capable of dealing good in three scenarios: Shadows, Textures quality, and Open GL. And nVidia seemed to answer my calls with Ultra Shadow II, their superb Anisotropic Filtering method, and their legendary support and performance in Open GL. So I went to a store and bought this little beast.

Now, with ATi's R520, I am happy to see ATi finally releasing at least some of their new products (X1800 XL, for example), but according to reviews I've just read ... the bottom line for me is: If you already have one of nVidia's latest creations, stay with it, until another generation arrives, either from ATi or nVidia.

I am not specifically interested in ATi R580.

But I asked for it, since I think there's actually no information at all regarding nVidia's NV80. Or is there any ?

I would expect nV to hit with their next part prior to ATi getting the R580 out of the door. Not saying that will happen, but nV is well into their next product cycle at this point.

Yeah X1800XT performance is good. I was comparing the screenhot of Call of duty 2 X1800XT vs 7800GTX and i think X1800XT had better image qualirt. anyways i don't think ATI would do another paper launch again. Right now alot of project manager will start to loose their jobs ;( . ATI can't afford another paper launch and if the ceo/managers/officals can't see the online hardware community so pissed of with paper launch and they still do another one. Then it would mean bad news.

ATI can't afford a paper launch. Also the X1000 series price will drop dramatically by next month if they seriously want to sell them at a good rate.

You should check out driverheaven review. they did testing on lower res + G70 with older nvidia drive and newer ones. Good article i must say.
