I would expect to start seeing them in time for holiday 2008, and I'd put money on them being $30.

I see you answered your own question with the obvious answer.

I kid. I'm sure they'll follow MS's lead and price them at $29.99 at first. Once I finally get around to buying a PS3, I expect to pick up a number of games for $30 or less. That probably won't happen for another year or so unless they start dropping the price big time...so no biggie.

?

Did you make this tread just so you can troll it, or did you just want to get that statement out of the way?

Dude, you stole the best joke, AND you screwed it up. The right joke in the context of this thread is "when there are games worth being in a greatest hits collection", because that joke actually makes an attempt to answer the question. :p

I'd expect them within another year or so. Probably include some of the racing games, Ratchet & Clank, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, etc.

I'm pretty sure the greatest hits for ALL of the last-gen consoles started at $30, and dropped once the new ones started coming out.

In any case, most game companies don't start making "Greatest Hits" versions until the stock produced with the original release becomes scarce and demand is still high, and I many not be that familiar with the PS3, but I don't think any games have turned THAT many copies.

oh...yeah i suppose if the 360 platinum hits are 30, then the ps3 will also be the same.

there's others such as haze, GTA4, DMC4 which are all "supposed" to come between Q1 and Q2.

they have many...in fact most of the platinum hits games are not the greatest games for the 360.

No, but most were 'hits' nonetheless. Once sony has a decent library of games they can consider 'hits' then I'm sure they'll go for $30 just like the Platinum 360 games.

In order for it to be a Platinum Hit, they have to sell 1,000,000 copies. I hardly think the PS3 has anything that sold 1mil copies good games or not.

It took a while for the xbox to get any platinum hits either.

"Greatest Hits" does not imply quality, it implies large sales. The "greatest hits" only exist because so many people have already bought the game that a lower price is the only way to extend the market for them.

It's a good way to stimulate sales of older games, especially in a market where something like 75% of total sales happen within the first week of release (fyi, I just pulled that stat out of my ass).

Uncharted did not do very well for the PS3, nor did Ratchet and Clank (sales-wise).

Since the PS3 is off to a slow start, I would guess that there won't be a "Greatest Hits" collection until 2009 at best - although Resistance is a good candidate for it, especially once Resistance 2 comes out.

i know that, but people implied that because it's platinum hit or greatest hit that the game is good. Not always true.

The funny thing is the "Greatest Hits" aren't usually the greatest hits. Games like Gears and Halo are never sold like that because they never need to drop the price that low.

I think usually the requirement to get the Hits moniker is selling 1,000,000 units.
