When Will Prices Drop on 6800 Line?

nVidia is due to release G70 in less than two weeks. When do you think we'll start to see price breaks on cards like the 6800GT?

I'm getting ready to build a new machine with a BFG 6800GT and an AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego. Both nVidia and AMD are releasing new products in the next few weeks and may lower prices on their current ones. I'd planned on buying all my components and having them here in time to build my new system right when I go on summer break, around June 22nd. I'd prefer to buy now, but I know I'd kick myself if I could save a lot by waiting a few weeks. Alternatively, I'd be really frustrated if I waited and the price breaks were very small or didn't happen.

What do people think? Are prices going to drop soon?

Thanks in advance for your opinions/ideas.

Two weeks afterwards because it's going to be at least that long before they are available in any sort of quantity, and because resellers will try to milk the last bit of profit out of last-gen cards.

I remember everyone said the 9800Pro prices would fall as soon as the 6600GT came out. But man, those 9800pro stuck at $200 for a LONG time

Almost a year after they were released they (6800 GT's) are still friggin expensive here in Canada - still over $550 CDN.

tell me about it... I was waiting forever for the fvcking price to drop and it didn't... So I ended up getting the 6600GT.
This is a direct result of a brutal ATI marketing mistake. Many people left ATI at the point. Right now I'm fairly happy with nVidia, I don't see myself changing back to ATI any time soon.
