When will computers be GHZ and up?

Ive been seeing lately in the Comp USA ad's speeds from 766 and up. I'm wondering when they'll make all comp's ghz and up 🙂

Then we'll start seeing ghz computers with that msn rebate for like 1000.00 - 400.00 rebate = 600.00 for a ghz with 80 gig hd, 128mb ram!!! whoo!

The MSN and CrapUserve rebates will be dissolved by mid year according to MSNBC.

They are a gimmick anyhow.

I don't see them dissolving them anytime soon..their making lots of $ off of them. And their a good deal if your just looking for basic ISP service. You get $400 off your PC, but they get $790.20 (21.95 * 36 months) so they are getting a very nice interest rate. I think that they will keep em around for a long time.

You won't see all computers selling at 1GHz and up for a while. The speed king war is slowing down, I guesstimate maybe another year before everything selling is over 1GHz.

Rebates: They are for people who don't understand math: $790.20 - $400 = $390.20 more over 3 years. A good ISP is cheaper. Unfortunately, I think that was the intent, target people who know only to look at the lowest initial price. Good thing they're phasing it out.

I think his thread tittle is very misleading.

I think he meant,When will the slowest cpu speed you can buy be a 1ghz and up cpu.

I think it will be a while till we see only 1Gig and up computers....there are still lots of celerons out there.

And these celeron and durons will be around for a while as the budget market is pretty big.

ANyone who doesn't know much about computers will still go for the cheap celerons. As more people start realizing it's better to build your own computer, companies like IBM and Dell will start losing money and will have to lower prices or just sell parts. So to answer your question, I think the 800 MHz to 1 gig will be around for a while (2 years) before we start seeing all 1 gigs.

As for the subject, I know when Intel thinks this will happen, but I figure I'd better not say. (but forgive me for saying this, I know how irritating it is when people say stuff like this... I'd talk about it if I could)

But to answer PliotronX's question. Here's Intel's page on Moore's Law and note that it's not quite what people claim it is:
