Does anyone one when we'll be able to buy Barcelona from the normal places like newegg?

Maybe this wasn't a "paper launch", but it was definitely a top tier retailers only launch...

Remember that servers undergo a much more intensive qualification period than desktops. The usual period for mass adoption on servers is ~6 months or more with a new architecture...
That said, there will certainly be early adopters for less mission critical servers over the next few weeks.
Woodcrest went through this same schedule when it was launched.

What does that have to do with buying chip from Newegg?

You do realize that Barcelona is a server chip, right? Phenom won't be out until early next year.

It doesn't...the post I replied to was asking about availability of Dell's SC1435 Barcelona Server...

Around November. AMD claims they started "shipping" in August, but no one has these chips, not even tier-1.

As for Phenom, it's looking like January.

What makes you think the Tier-1s don't have Barcelona? If they shipped for revenue in late August (which would be around WW33), then we can't possibly see systems until late Sept...

if you can't buy it at Newegg, it (almost) doesn't exist.

That's going to be bad news for Sun Microsystems and SGI...

Both of which don't produce x86 cpu's.

Sun sells machines with x86 parts.
