When Will AMD Price Cuts Take Effect?

Disclaimer:
Yes, I am a self-proclaimed fanboi of AMD, and I'm sticking with them through all this because I've never dealt with Intel. I won't try to change your mind, so save yourself some time and don't try to change mine. Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics (if you don't know the rest, then google it).

So - any news on exactly when AMD will cut prices? Are they waiting until the 27th?

It could be anytime from now until the end of the month, really, maybe even a bit after that. And the amounts haven't even been confirmed either.

im sticking with AMD as well. They have treated me good over the years, giving me quality high performing products, just becuase Intel has something faster for the next 6-12 months, doesn't mean AMD won't come out strong again with thier next big thing....

I can suck another year out of my mobo with some upgrades anyways....

Im not chasing the dog around the park all day jumping on the Best CPU train, i dont want to ,and cant afford it either, i will go with long term quality and performance...

it has been pretty much confirmed that the prices will drop before the end of july....the quantity isn't...

Monarch has some decent deals on AMD CPUs right now, but expect them to drop even more soon hopefully.

the only reason i am sticking with amd at this point is $$$$. looking into a 3800x2 939 for ~$150 or less 😀 then i will o/c it to 2.4 and my smp apps will be loving it

What does the stock ddr2 speed run at 4200 speed? So what would be the 250fsb equivalent? Everyone says get teh ddr2 800, but those are the same people worrying about getting 275 fsb on their memory when it didn't make crap for real world differences.

Looking at some budget AM2 4000 overclocking when the prices come down.

Thanks

why? not like they are going to be valueable later, and the cache really doesn't transfer into any serious performance adv.

also, not like they are shutting down the opteron line...

I suppose it would be hard for the people on this board who have consistantly bashed Intel and been vocal about AMDs performance lead to switch to Intel. To these people I say... suck it up and switch. Don't worry about your pride.

It's kind of funny how you can't really see fanboys until the backround changes in such a way that contrasts them. I remember when I went to build my computer 2 1/2 years ago and it was pretty much the opposit. A64 was establishing itself and there was people posting about how well intel had treated them over the years and how they didn't want to switch.

Pick a date. You're going to see plenty of price cuts from both sides from now until the end of the year methinks...

Too bad you're going X2, otherwise I'd give you a really good deal on some used regular A64 939's 😀

is it only a64, a64 x2's that are getting a price cut? and the opterons are staying at the same price?

from what have ready, yes

oh ok, and one more question, will the energy efficient a64 x2's get a price cut as well ?

The official drop begins on 7/24, but don't expect the effect to actually kick in until a month or so later. Resellers have to clear their old stock, and chances are they'll buy the lower-priced new batches from AMD but keep their prices the same for more profits. Any price drop has an associated delay with it.
