I really want one of these... I've got Doom 3 fever bad. Why can't Nvidia supply these bast@rds?! Any idea on when we'll see a lot of them available. No one has anything, and if they do, the price is gouged.

of course the ATI cards don't seem to be any better with availability or pricing.

Who do they think they are, Apple?

Has there ever been a major video card launch that was as problematic as these, in terms of availability?

IIRC, the Voodoo2, TNT, TNT2, Voodoo3, GeForce, Voodoo4/5, GF2, GF3, Radeon, R8500, GF4, R9700, 5800U, R9800, 5900/5950, etc. were all readily available within a couple of weeks of the NDA breaking. This just seems ridiculous.

If either ATi or nVidia could get their cards into stores on a consistent basis, they'd be selling strongly, I'd think, since both are a LOT better than their respective predecessors. nVidia, in particular, could retake the aftermarket throne after being schooled for the last couple of years, if they could just get their cards into stores.

Maybe never. NV50 is currently being worked on.

paper launch early 2005, hits shelves 2007

You can't paper launch on top of another paper launch. :p

I'm hoping it was just the GDDR3 shortage this time; most high-end graphic card launches aren't even close to this bad.

I made a similar claim a month or two ago and there are still no cards. You're probably right though. :p

Sure you can, S3 does it all the time, their product is about 4 generations of their own products behind their paper launch

let's keep hoping that they get the GDDR RAM production to ramp up soon so supply could come into balance with demand, otherwise these cards will continue to be a rarity coming in a very slow stream and being snatched quickly, mostly by people willing to pay a little more, while the deal seekers which hope to save 25 bucks will be left out in the cold, hoping to get one for cheap from the next batch when the story repeats itself.
