I still have my 36" Standard Def TV because I'm picky about spending multiple thousands on a screen marginally wider than this one - I paid $800 (on sale) about 10 years ago and it still looks good...

when will the 37" LCD's get to $500 or less - when OLED comes out?

Probably when Westinghouse/Sceptre/Olevia 32" LCD's hit the $379 range.

I'm guessing 2008 third quarter, possibly sooner or later. Give or take a year or two ;)

Sooner than that, I'm betting. Call it Q2 of 2008. My rule of thumb is that LCDs prices stay roughly the same, but that each size moves down a price category every 9-12 months. It's been true so far.

Kind of ironic isn't it that your system listed in your sig probably cost close to 2 grand yet you're only willing to spend $500 on a decent lcd tv? ;)

Anyways it shouldn't be long. I paid over a grand for my Dell 24" lcd monitor just 2 years ago.

by the end of this year; and certainly standard come 09. I'm thinking there will be ~$400 LCDs to be had on BF.

probably end of this year on a hot deal, mid-next year for "standard" pricing perhaps

LOL - I knew someone would say that!
My parts cost much less than $2k that's for sure!

I'm looking to be inexpensive in the bedroom setup, so 37" seems to be a good replacement size for my 27" tube... the 36" in the main viewing room will most likely earn a replacement in the $2-3K range :)
