When will 30" LCD drop in price?

the market is driven by cheap people. This is why quality has not increased as much. When people are not willing to pay it we are stuck with such mediocre options. I'm sure they could produce your $300 panel, you just would not want to own it.

1920x1200=2304000, $200~250 for most 24" ~26" TN
In my opinion 1080p monitors is a joke.

2560x1600=4096000 $800~1200 for 30" NON-TN

TN monitor's vertical viewing angle and colors are crap when you view it side by side with IPS and VA.

But if you're just going for budget gaming, just get a 1200p monitor, Theres so much motion blur on LCDs when you're moving and killing theres not much difference between 1200p 8xAA and 1600p 4xAA. And TN lcd's tend to have faster response time or so they say.

i have seen 32 inch for about 300. But lcd tv. so 1920 x 1080. Read they still work great as monitor though.

Thats because a 30" TN would suck and no one would buy it. Hell the view angle is bad enough on 24" TNs. Its worse on a 28" TN, so I know a 30" would be no better.

My advise, save your money and buy once. Get you a 30" refurb from Dell Outlet and call it good. They are usually around $700 or so

I half agree with SniperWulf, jumping to 30" on a TN the viewing angle could be a problem, BUT on some 24" the viewing angle is not "bad enough" if you use it as a computer monitor where you are fixed in one place in front of it rather than gathering a group of people to watch it like a TV. It isn't suited for graphical design work, but fine for most purposes.

Even so, if there were 30" TN panels for $300 or less I'd buy one, and expect the market will keep moving up in TN panel size so maybe in 2-3 years it'll happen.

Yeah, my ASUS 25.5" is a TN with a horrible viewing angle. But I'm stationed right at a desk, so viewing angle doesn't really bug me. If I had the cash I would get an Apple Cinema Display in a heartbeat, but therein lies the problem...

Bigger the monitor, easier it is to see TN's flaws. The vertical angle shift would be pretty noticeable on a 30". It was bad enough on an old 22" I had. Looking dead center at the the monitor would produce a darker image at the very top of the screen. On a 30" this issue would be even more noticeable.

So, I think they will stay IPS. Affordable and moderately sized OLEDs are still a few years off. I don't regret dropping over a grand on my 3008WFP, it's going to last me a long time considering how slow this sector of the market moves.

I bought my 30" for $1,100 (open-box) 3 years ago. Before that there was only one 30" from apple @ cool $3K. Samsung/Dell/HP started making 30" monitors and they were close to $2K when debut'ed, and it quickly came down to $1,200~$1,500 so I thought the prices would go down further. Well, 3 years from then everything else including TVs went down in prices except the 30" monitors. Strange, indeed.

Pixel count hardly matters. Surface areas is what determines costs.

Are you sure about that? Displays with a higher pixel count are going to cost more on the QA front as there's a greater chance of running into screen defects.

I can't imagine viewing angle troubles being any worse even though the area is larger.
