I've been watching the drastic price drop of LCDs for the past year or so now.. 19" LCDs used to be routintely around $800 in early 2004, and now a year later they're about half that. Does anyone have any clue as to what kind of price drop we can see in the next 2 months or so? Also, will 19" LCDs get down to $250 (this year)?

I read an article a few months ago that LCD prices will be dropping further during the early part of this year.

I've seen the Viewsonic VP912B drop from $609 to $599 to $589 to $559 in the space of about a week at Newegg.com just this past week! Other "cheap" 19" monitors are barely over $300 at this point... but personally I wouldn't want a $300 buck 19" monitor, as most of them have "quaility issues" (like poor response times and no DVI inputs).

I spend more time looking/using the monitor then any other part of my computer, so I have no problems if it's the most expensive piece in my setup (and it's usually the longest-life item to not get replaced). I wouldn't budget a monitor to the lowest cost, but to answer the original question, I'd say you'll see your first CHEAP-O 19" LCD monitor by April 05 (if not sooner).

My Proview PL913s came out to something like $225AR but before tax. So there...if you get lucky+a good deal, you can get your 19-incher now! :)

Ive actually read teh opposite, although I forget if i was from xbitlabs or tomshardwareguide.
Said prices may increase in the second quarter (ish).
I personally believe that any price hike will be smaller and temporary, as we all know technology gets cheaper with time. I would give it another year for prices to drop signifigantly though.

About 3-4 months ago I had read the same (That prices would increase), but the opposite happened. Now they think there will be further decreases.

Here is a very recent article from Jan 21:

http://olympics.reuters.com/au...gyNews&storyID=7397478

And a quote from that article

"No. 2 LCD maker LG.Philips LCD Co. Ltd. (034220.KS: Quote, Profile, Research) (LPL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) recently said LCD prices could drop 10 to 20 percent in the first half of this year"

All calculated guesses.

Thanks for the input guys.

Wolfshanze: I don't mind spending the most on my monitor either, however $500 for a monitor is pretty pricey (for me). That's about as much as a new CPU, MB, and RAM combined.

Kaadg: Thanks, I think I will wait a few months and make my decision then.
