I'm pretty sure it was Gothic in the Spring of 2004 for around $17. I turned to Amazon after not finding a boxed copy anywhere in my hometown. Up to that point I had been able to buy any game I really wanted locally. PC Game sections were really starting to shrink.

I had found Gothic 2 at Gamestop (the great review by Desslock in PC Gamer intrigued me), and reading more about it convinced me to play Gothic first. That turned out to be one of the great decisions of my gaming life, even though I had to wait like 4 weeks for the damn thing to come from SE Asia.
