When were PDF's first used?

A friend of mine is trying to get a Sharp jx-9400 laser printer to print some PDF's, but it comes out all messed up. Kinda like wing dings. The latest printer driver I can find is for win 3.1. Were PDF's even used then?

You should be able to print a PDF on any printer as long as the OS has a print driver for it, as far as I know.

as long as you can open it with Acrobat on the OS, acrobat should be able to print it out just fine.

Thats whats so wacked out about it. It has the latest version of acrobat and win98se is up to date as well?

you should be able to print no problems.. make sure your set up to print in RAW mode..

wingdings kind of things happen if its trying to print in anyother mode.

Upgrade your version of Acrobat reader. Older versions have problems. If you laser printer can print a bitmap, it can print a PDF.

Oh, make sure you turn off vector mode if your printer has that... Turn off postscript if that's an option.

Could be a driver issue or a memory issue.

If you're printing with a PostScript driver, try the PCL driver (or vice versa).

If the printer doesn't have enough memory, try printing the PDF as an image.

I know it has the latest version of acrobat, but I know nothing about the printer. I know the guy got it back in 1994 and it is made by Sharp (model Jx-9400). The only info I found was a driver for win 3.1.

Busie23,

Open up the pdf, and click file, then print. There should be a checkbox for an option called Print as Image. try that out to see if it prints it out correctly.

I had the same problem with a relatively newer printer (LaserJet 1100). I don't recall how I got around the issue or if I ever did. It had something to do with unicode fonts.
