When watching SD programming on an HDTV...

Is it normal to see a good amount of flickering on bright colored backgrounds in 480I? It's extremely noticable and driving me nuts.

No. Sounds like your HDTV sucks. Should have tried SD before buying it!

I heard good reviews for the model (Philips 30PW8420). It was a great deal at $399 and received a lot of positive responses regarding picture quality.. which has been fine, minus the flickering.

The Phillips HDTV I had briefly until it failed & I exchanged it for my current Sony had a pretty lousy SD picture although HD & up-mixed DVD's looked good... in fact many HDTV's
don't do too well with standard definition stuff which is still 80-90% of what I watch.

My 32" Westinghouse LCD does SD "ok" it's pretty mediocre.

It really shines with HD material though, I can't wait until everything is in HD.

Is it still from digital stations? Because my HDTV tuner card shows SD programs from digital stations pretty well. As good as the SD RPTV we have downstairs.
