When washing dishes do you use cold, warm, or hot water?

I'm guessing most people will say hot water for hygienic reasons but personally I've never had a problem washing dishes in cold watter. Unless it's something that has a LOT of caked on grease and oil. Never gotten sick from eating from these dishes afterwards.

I;m assuming here that you aren't using a dishwasher.
 
Reasonably warm, or about what I could comfortably tolerate.

I think to properly sanitize the stuff using heat, you'd have to get the water hot enough to cause considerable pain and burns.


 
warmer water usually washes off food better. Does nothing for sanitation unless you're using boiling water. And if you're using boiling water, you're a fucking stud.

Unless you follow Mickey's advice and be a stud - then the temp will make a difference - sterilization
 
Hot water to blast off gunk first, apply soap with sponge, rinse with hot water again. All hand wash, no gloves.

As hot as I can stand it. If I can barely plunge a hand into the sink to pull a fork out w/o causing tissue damage, the temp is just right.

Anyway, I fill the sink with very hot water from the tap, put my dishes into the sink of very hot water and leave it until it's cool enough for me to comfortably wash them. This extra soak in hot water makes the cleaning easier.
 
Generally on the upper end of the warm spectrum. I'll sometimes soak them in hot water if they're especially dirty, though.
 
Hot as I can stand. Has nothing to do with any perceived benefits of hot water. I just think that putting my hands in a mixture of cold soap, cold tap water, and cold food remains is somehow disgusting.
 
If I am going to put them in the dishwasher I just rinse off the major gunk with cold water and put them in there. If I am washing them by hands it's all hot water, as hot as I can stand it.

I know that the hot water coming out of the sink isn't going to be enough to kill germs but I do it anyways.

I live with 3 other people, so things like cutting knives, pots/pans and cutting boards are all washed by hands. We use them too often to stick them in the dishwasher.
 
No option for dishwater? 🙁

But usually it's hot so my hands don't freeze and it loosens up the stuff on the dishes a bit easier.
 
Hot for wash and rinse. I fill my largest dirty container with hot soapy water, and keep the sink "dry". I wash the dishes individually and rinse them over the dirty dishes, thereby given the dirty dishes a "prewash"
 
Scalding. You don't really get the haze off with cold water. And it helps activate the molecules and breaks down food and grime much better. Ever want to get your wine glasses to be so clean that they seem invisible? Use scaling water.

I hate hazy drink glasses. Lazy dishwashers.
