Not for a while, I live in Vancouver which is full of parallel spots, but I generally just find a lot because I don't like parking streetside anyway, in most places.

never in my life.

question, what's the proper etiquette for pulling in. what if you have to back in ... how do you let the other drivers know? do they naturally give you room to back in in say NYC? i imagine bumper to bumper and when you need to back into a parallel spot it's impossible.

Apparently the general population of my town was so inept at parallel parking that the city gave up, widened the roads and painted in diagonal parking slots. I don't think there is a parallel parking slot to be found here.

last week.. not only did i rear end the car in front of me, i tail boned the car behind me, then I was so tight inside that I couldn't get out and had my girlfriend drive out re-parallel park somewhere else.

Living in LA, you get pretty good at it. I'm not a world class pro, but I do it at least a couple times a week, and I can hold my own.

last week, when I borrowed my parents car for the week (mine was in the shop).

my mom has a hatchback... I can parallel park that thing 100% of the time without a problem. when I'm driving my car, though, it typically takes me 3-4 attempts, so I won't do it if there are other people around.

side question can you do it good on both side because I stink when I try to park on the left hand side of the street.

Less than a month ago, when I went downtown to get my truck's registration renewed. I do admit that I wasn't really happy with the initial placement in the slot, so I did an adjustment move.......but seeing as I parallel park about once every couple years, I don't feel I did too badly. :)

Of course, living in a small city (100K population) makes it nicer, since finding spaces usually doesn't involve more than driving around the block once or twice.......usually once to scout the closest spot, then the 2nd time to park there! :D

I can't remember..but I know I didn't do it all that well. I definitely need a LOT of help when it comes to parallel parking. Even during my driving test..the guy had to talk me through it...and he passed me anyway. lol. But luckily we're allowed to fail one part of the driving test..so even if I had failed I still would've gotten my license. :)
