I was just thinking about this the other day...I don't think I've EVER seen a BSOD in Windows XP!!!

Okay, I admit I've seen it ONCE--the first time I attempted a motherboard swap without reinstalling the OS!! Literally impossible in Windows XP (especially if you're switching from Intel to AMD.) The only other BSODs I've heard of are overclocking related...on older mobos folks didn't have control of the PCI bus clock and if the IDE controller was running too fast it'd screw up.

So other than motherboard swaps and overclocking stability issues, have you EVER seen a BSOD in Windows XP?

Anytime i've ever had one, it has been a hardware issue..although, we just rolled out XP onto about 2,000 workstations at where I work, on our unstable network, so I will let you know how those perform later

Nope, certain applications can crash, but never takes WinXP down. I've had BSODs from OCing the memory too much though.

last time i saw it was when i fixed my cousin's PC :(

there was an insane amount of spyware, adware, etc, etc.

fixed it easily using an XP disc and the recovery console, though. :)

There is no such thing as the blue screen of death in windows xp. In Windows 98 you would have this... it's basically a cryptic blue screen error message that seemingly came up for no reason at all. That is a BSOD. A blue screen because you swapped the mobo is NOT A BSOD.. it's there for a real reason. Which is why there are no "random BSOD" occurances anymore. Pretty nice if you ask me.

Oh and I have successfully swapped a mobo using WinXP before... it's nearly impossible though. :p

you have to admit, IF someone gets a BSOD in Windows XP, it's more user error than OS at fault.

yes, the OS is pretty stable, it's what an OS should have been all along. it's a crime that we had to suffer thru the win 9x and the win 3.x series.

those were HORRENDOUS OS's (and don't start an argument with me about win 3.x not being a true OS, i'm aware of that fact, but that's not my point).

It happens like every 2 months or so.

you have hardware issues, legacy hardware almost definitely.

btw, every 2 months or so is not bad compared to win 9x. shoot, i remember reinstalling the OS entirely with Win 9x because of instabilities.

WinXP mobo swap. AMD (KT333) to Intel (VIA 694T)

Install = pwn3d.

Edit - Other than that? One BSOD - and that was due to Daikatana. I got the disc free, installed it, tried to play, got halfway through the second level - BAM, BSOD every time.

Gave up. Microwaved the disc.

You can get that from overclocking, BTW.

I plugged in my Archos Jukebox USB and it came up with the old BSOD - IRQ not less or equal....then rebooted and all was fine but I think I will upgrade the driver if they have a new one.

I've had 3 and all have been caused by Battlefield 1942 so I don't blame XP.

that error clearly indicates that one of your device drivers is bad. without more infoe i couldnt find out which one. but in all probablity it is a 3rd party driver like those super beta nvdia drivers you downloaded from super-happy-overclockers.com
