Back when I was growing up, I used to hear Polack jokes all the time. My Scoutmaster was Polish and he used to relish telling us such jokes. Invariably, these jokes were based on the Polish being particularly stupid. However, I never saw even a hint of evidence to this notion and in fact, the Polish have a slightly higher IQ than U.S. citizens.

That Polish selfie thread made me realize that I haven't heard a Polack joke in decades. I assume these jokes died out because they were so far removed from reality that they didn't make any sense; just like how we used to joke about Japanese products being cheap and of poor quality.

Are Polack jokes a thing of the past? When was the last time you heard a Polack joke?

Polack jokes still exist, they just morphed into blonde jokes. Replace "blonde" with "Polack" and they're mostly the same.

I play golf occasionally in a group with two Italians and a Polack and they all ride each other constantly, so I've heard every possible Italian and Polish joke 1000 times over.

How do you know a Polack was using the computer last?

There is white-out on the monitor.

These things go in waves. When I was growing up as a child of the 80's and 90's I basically didn't know anti-semitism existed. Those jokes left the lexicon as the Jews became the "Chosen People" and the token non-Christians for EVERY children's show to make a (what I now know is a tolerance) episode about Jewish topics like passover, hanukkah and bar mitzvahs. Heck, thanks to the aforementioned TV shows I know every word to “Hava Nagila.” I also know a lot of Jewish slang for pretty much the same reasons (putz, smuck, etc.).

Then, sometime in the last 90s and early 00s, anti-semitism had become SO defeated that it was able to be jokingly resurrected by (often Jewish) stand up comedians. I heard my first Jewish joke when I was like 17 years old thanks to these comedians.

The Jewish community lost that exposure window- now the non-Christian kid down the street in the TV show is just as likely to be Muslim- and with it we see a rise of more classic anti-semitism combined with a greater general apathy to Jewish issues such as the plight of Israel.

,.. and I always thought Archie Bunker started this crap,...

Damn dude I had no idea it originated from such hate and prejudice.

I used to always cringe when telling people my name was polish in the 80's and 90's. Waiting to see what they say. There were so many jokes and the attitude toward them became so bad because of it. It's pretty sad really a kid should feel that way.
