When was the last time you felt major excitement hearing a new music artist/ group/ band/ song for the first time?

Maroon 5, two years ago, the only album I spent probably a month straight listening to it without getting sick of it.

Pretty sad state for the music industry.

I was excited as hell to hear the new Tool album this year, and the excitement was justified. It's brilliant :)

Same with me.. I actually heard Maroon 5 because of some random pre-release that I downloaded from a bot in #mpeg3 on Efnet. I liked it a lot and listened to it so much.. I broke the burned cd (left in the sun on the dashboard) so I replaced it with a real album when it came out.

Then it became so famous that the radio played the hell out of it and I can't stand the entire album any more.. Bleh.

Dunno what gunslinger girl is, but this is an excellent choice. Just wanted to say that.

My choice would either be "Looking In" by Greater California, or "Star Witness" by Neko case as far as "first time I heard the artist" experiences go. Though the latter might be cheating since I'd heard her in the new pornographers.

When Marilyn Manson released Mechanical Animals. I think that was the last album I've actually bought from any band. When was that....1998/1999?

I don't know how major the excitement was, but I'm digging The Feeling lately.

I am majorly excited to hear the new Jason Falkner album whenever it finally comes out.

Killers playing at LG Wiltern. Then I found out tickets were reselling for $400 and the excitement quickly died.

For songs every now and then, for bands maybe every 1-2 years. Last one was Apollo 440 and before them The Chemical Brothers. I was late to the game in both cases, though...

I'm sure I'll get flamed, but I really liked U2's "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own" on the HTDAAB album. Bring it on U2 haters.
