I'm trying to make a reference in a paper, but I can't find any concrete evidence. It's a bit hard to figure out the keywords to find this info on google.

If I recall correctly, at one time it was consdiered beautiful to be large, becuase it meant that you have money.

Any help is apprecaited!

Well, I think large was/is still considered beautiful in Hawaii... the rulers of the Island used to gorge themselves as a show of their riches.

I also heard, in some African countries (could be wrong, but I'm serious) the men considered: the bigger the woman, the more space the child would have in the belly, or something along those lines.

And also, obviously, if you were large, you were rich because you could afford more food, and therefore gorge more food.

Depends on what you mean by large, I like a woman with a little meat on her bones rather than the emaciated look thats popular today. :)

I think I need to visit Hawaii...

Zäftig is the artistic movement for the large ladies, and Peeter Pauwel (or Peter Paul, as he's more commonly called in English) Reubens was one of its major artists. Look up information on him and his contemporaries.

in the old days of england, the royal people used to have clothes that made them look like they had huge bellies

it gave the appearence of being able to eat a lot, hence that person had a crap load of money to by all the food

I think back several hundreds of years ago it was good for females to be healthy/plump because that showed they did not have to do labor, meaning she was part of aristocracy that did not have to work.

That doesn't look all that plump to me.

Wasn't this the case with the vikings also. From what I remember, a larger woman means they're more likely to survive the winter.

Starting about 2-3 years ago, seriously. I am not talking about 400lb large, but slightly overweight.

18-30 year olds - Have you noticed in the past 2-3 years, girls that are "big-boned" or overweight have gained unprecdented confidence? It's as if they are all singing "I'm every woman." They dress sexier with their halter tops and JUICY velour pants. They all wearing shorts and skirts. They are showing more skin (and fat) than ever. Again, I am talking about the girl that is 20-30 lbs overweight. They are less self-conscious. And you know what? It's paying off. Admit it. You are starting to accept them more. Maybe even finding them attractive. Look at Kelly Clarkson. That is no small woman. But many people think she's attractive. She is seriously overweight. She lost a bunch, but still.

If you define large as not being scrappy, then the renaissance era is what you are looking for.

As previously stated, being plump meant you did not have to labor and showed that you could afford to feast, whereas peasants and slaves did not have the opportunity to have much more than a meager meal.

Being fat, however made you a glutton, which for a time when people were uptight religious, meant that you frequently violated one of the seven deadly sins.
