when Warren Buffet dies...

It occurred to me the other day that Berkshire Hathaway's seemingly unstoppable gains through the years are popularly attributed to Buffet's business and investment expertise. But the guy is old enough now that he could drop dead at any moment. He may go another twenty years, or he may keel over tomorrow. Presumably he has successors lined up, but I have a hard time believing folks wouldn't be very nervous over whether or not they could or would continue the investment model with such success. Would news of his death send BRK shares tumbling, and for how long?

It will probably go up because his picks are old school and low return. Unless his successor is also an old fart afraid of technology.

when Warren Buffet dies...

The bulls will weep...

EDIT: His successor and that of executive management all have replacements waiting in the wings. There was an interesting interview with him and another associate (try money.cnn.com to see if they have that interview) where they state that they already have selected their replacements and are happy with their choices.

From what I remember, it was a good article. IIRC, Buffet's management team narrowed down the list of candidates to 2-3, then eventually selected one person to succeed Buffet. I believe they said the successor has already taken the reins and handles most of the tedious day-to-day work.

if JS80 was in charge, he'd be getting 200% returns a year. ;)
