when viewed from space, does the earth spin from left to right...

it should be left to right, right?

my logic is, because East Coast gets the sun before the west, so the earth spins from left to right.

i think you mean clockwise.
And you should be a little more specific, like "when you look at the north pole from space, does the earth..."

edit: the earth spins counter-clockwise when viewed from the north pole

well, not from north pole or south pole, but from a horizontal perspective.... like... from Junpiter or 100 miles from earth.

okay, A = Sun, B = Earth, C = POV (point of view). and ABC is a straight line.

It still depends on which pole is up and which is down. :p

If the North pole is up, it spins from left to right. Sun rises in the east...

The Earth makes a revolution around the sun in 1 year. Jupiter takes quite a bit longer. ;)

Pretty sure "Juntpiter" is a lot farther than 100 miles...

true true.

ack. this is harder than I thought :)

I thought that Earth was stationary and that the sun rotated around us. Isn't that what Jesus said?

That gives you absolutely zero information on orientation

When viewing the South pole, the earth spins clockwise.
When viewing the equator, with the south pole to the bottom, the earth spins left to right.

Also, based on the above observation, the direction of rotation of the Earth observed from Jupiter depends on where the Earth is in its orbit, ie, what season its in.

well, that's specific enough ;)

oh, and i made a mistake in my first post, the earth spins counter-clockwise when viewed from the north pole.

So, you're right. That means it would spin left to right from ANY horizontal POV

I was asking the astronomy professor what's on the other side of a black hole (not the other side of the tube, more like other side of a mirror), and he didn't give me a straight answer. I don't think he gave me an answer at all.

And how do we know North Pole is really North Pole and not South Pole?

thumb pointing north, rotation would be in the direction of curl of the other four fingers. I think...

Yes, you're right. Of course, you didn't say which hand, so you're also wrong.

Nein, the POV looking directly at the equator with the south pole above you would be reversed.

omg :Q I kept thinking the right hand rule, axis from south to north and I forgot to mention the word "right"! :|
