when using valve's steam... mouse missing

whenever I load up a game like cs or hl using steam, the mouse cusor disappears. Anyone else having this problem? I'm using win2k, voodoo5 and dx9. I had dx8 before and upgrading to 9 did nothing.

I think we're gonna be forced to use it at one point or another
I honestly think it's bad programming thats causing my problem on their part since the HL engine hasn't been modified, I mean, it still runs the same w/ or w/o steam on a voodoo series card
It's that crap steam interface they're trying to use put on us.
I've seen my problem mentioned by other voodoo owners and they often go unanswered, or I think I've seen lame excuses like get a new card. Which I will several months from now.
